Project 5000's 4th, 5th & 6th Visits to the Central Region

GOMOA KWAMKROM, ALMIGHTY ACADEMY AND OSAMKROM MASTER SAM PREPARATORY

The Lord is God and His faithfulness endures forever. From the rising of the sun until its going down, the name of the LORD be praised for such an amazing impact in the lives of four hundred and Seven (407) students and teachers in the Central Region on the 27th July, 2016. We say “thank you” to all our partners who made it happen through their various contributions. God richly bless you and increase the substance of your hands.
After camping most individuals who made their intentions of going known, we set off at 5:30 am after a cooperate prayers of thanksgiving.

It was a journey of about two and half hours’ drive from University of Ghana Campus. We got to the first school at 8:30 am. We were warmly welcomed by the teaching staff who had been expecting us and the students, most of whom came to school on that day because of our visit, as a result of them finishing writing their terminal examinations and preparing for their “our day” the next day.

We visited three schools on this day; Gomoa Kwamkrom S.D.A Junior High, Almighty Academy and Osamkrom Master Sam Preparatory.

Osamkrom Master Sam Preparatory entirely made of wood was the first visited. After arranging the items to be presented on the display table, we sat with the teaching staff headed by the headteacher, a pastor. We introduced ourselves and the purpose for which we were in their school.

We then took few pictures. From there, we moved into the various segments of teachings as outlined below.

  • RHAPSODY TIME: This is a very important aspect of the programme. All 220 students and 15 teachers were given copies of Rhapsody of Realities, a daily devotional guide. They were all taken through and the prayer of salvation said with them.

All 15 teachers were given copies of the “Power of Your Mind” a book that teaches on life transforming principles of the mind and its use. This is intended to be studied by the teachers and taught to the children.

  • PROPER HAND WASHING TECHNIQUES: According to UNICEF, “Most deaths in persons below the ages of 10 could be avoided by simple hygienic practices.” All the children were practically taken through proper hand washing techniques with soap under running water. This would be continued with two barrels with taps donated to the school.

  • LIFE AT HOME DURING VACATION: This is also a very important one which contained a number of other topics such as the influence of peers and teenage pregnancy. This was because school was vacating and the probability of them being victims of social vices could be high.

As part of the training, “Swimming Against the Tides”, a book that teaches on the habit of reading, temperaments and team work was given to every form 2 student of the school. Thank you Mr. Azumah for such a book.

Another aspect is the Philosophy of Life. This was a deliberate effort made by the directors to provide a space on the designed exercise books called the “QUOTE”. This is provided for the children to write a philosophy of theirs after we had spoken to them. Anytime they see it, they would be motivated by their own words.

After presenting the items which would be later listed, we moved on to the next schools- Almighty Academy with 5 teachers and 60 students and Gomoa Kwamkrom S.D.A Junior High with 7 teachers and 90 students. Both schools shared the same field and were taken through the same activities and items presented to them.

It was indeed a great experience.
