Service To All

“Many people want to be leaders without the sacrificial service that must go with leadership. Christians continue to fight among themselves for positions. Such attitudes are transferred to public life. Everyone wants to lead and no one wants to be a servant,” Prof. Martey decried. 

Leaders make others better and take others up with them. They are genuinely interested in others. It is very difficult to become a good leader if you are not ready to serve, and that is really all what leadership is about-service.

“Ghana can only be great if the leadership in every sphere of life is willing to serve,” he emphasized.

Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, a former Director General of the Ghana Health Service, believes that Ghana has not seen much development like it should have and this is basically due to frail leadership.

Time For Change

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a UN initiative, are eight (8) international development goals and eighteen (18) targets that were established in September 2000. The MDGs were time-bound and were set to expire in 2015. As a result, seventeen (17) goals and one hundred and sixty-nine (169) targets, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been designed by the UN to replace the MDGs once they become invalid. 

Ms Christine Evans-Klock, the UN Resident Coordinator, said that "the SDGs were global in nature and universally applicable unlike the MDGs which applied to only developing countries," and she also extolled Ghana for taking the required steps to ensure a smooth migration from the MDGs to the SDGs. Many Orphans, Little Help.

"South Africa has more than 1.4-million maternal orphans, the vast majority being cared for by family members. To be able to care for orphans, families require financial assistance.

The child protection system is unable to respond to the large number of orphans which is evidenced by the decrease in the number of foster child grants in payment." 

The government's Child Support Grant offered to relatives who take care of orphans is meagre, which impel them to formalize the custody arrangement to try to get the Foster Child Grant, which is appreciably higher. 


However, there is the problem of the Children's Amendment Bill, which seeks to increase the use of foster child grants for orphans, not being able to keep up with the current figures, hence the inability to cater for supplementary orphans that may attach to the numbers in the near future.

Anniversary Donation

Check out the story on the donation of the Christian Praise International Center (CPIC) to the Nissi Care Orphanage in Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Municipality of Brong-Ahafo. This was done in honor of the church's late founder, Bishop Annor-Yeboah, who passed away a year ago. 

The National Chairman of CPIC said that the church was devoted to promoting the socio-economic welfare of orphans and widows, which the founder was committed to.

LEADER: BORN or MADE?

"Every human being is born with one quality or the other to enable him or her become a leader in a chosen field, the President of the Full Gospel Church International (FGCI), Rt Rev. Samuel N. Mensah, has stated." Rev. Mensah gave a sermon at the climax of the Giant Conference 2015 at the church premises where the week-long summit was held. This is what he said.

CHOICE

I grew up in a setting where plumbers become the pacesetters of a whole community, a setting where people with low educational backgrounds now have their schools, amongst which is Central University. I grew up where young men who had unbelievably "bad" results comparing to their standards, through patience, are now studying on scholarship in USA. If for nothing, I have seen in my lifetime in this 21st century, a lady who in her late-teens, has still kept her virginity as a treasure unbroken. What can I say more? With my eyes, have I seen two ladies, who had been once messed up by guys and made almost useless, who have now stood on their feet, letting go of the past and moving on greatly. Two fathers, who had once been recognized as "rich men" in their communities suddenly "broke down" but have now started picking up the pieces mightily. 

In life, our greatest weapon, which can destroy and build is CHOICE.  Choose right, build a great future.

An Angel In Your Life

Our world is full of people with different characters and "make-up". This often makes it difficult for the ordinary man to see the best in his fellow. About three years ago, I came across this composition by a legendary musician which really changed my viewpoint on the value of our connections. 

"Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you've never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can't wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it's like being young again. Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn't exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day's work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there's no need for continuous conversation, but you find you're quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there's a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that's so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile.
