Rising Africa Interview

And so after the Executive Director's, Dzagbletey Faith Adabah Julius, recognition with Coca-Cola Ghana as one of the top 60 young achievers in the country, Rising Africa, a group keen on making African talent and success stories known to the world, granted him an interview. It was an honor to both Julius and the organization at large to be recognized for their efforts in making this world a better place for humanity. It is one thing to do what you do for praise from the masses that is watching and another to be recognized for the things you do and accomplish. We are glad that people and organizations have seen the good work being done and have decided to commend us. This is a great source of motivation to Julius as well as the team to keep pushing forth with their ideas and plans.

Visit to Hope Children's Home, Haatso

As part of sharing love which is significant of the Christmas Festivity, SpreadAid International payed a visit to Hope Children's Home in Haatso.

It is a Christian home for kids without biological parents and with disabilities, housing about 27 boys and 13 girls, which is however opened to all children at all times. We arrived at the home a little past 9 AM. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed with hugs and smiles from the children and caretakers. A few pleasantries were exchanged and we presented items to the children and home. Items included rice, vegetable oil, canned fish, tomato, milk, milo, exercise books and pencils, water, cereals, just to mention a few.

The man-in-charge, Pastor Ashley, thanked us verily and encouraged us to continue the good work.

We took leave by 11:30 AM. It was a time of great joy and love for everyone present.

International Day of Disabled Persons 2016 - Disability Empowerment Day

December 3rd is the day set aside to celebrate the physically challenged in the world, and SpreadAid International joined the world in celebrating them this year. The program was themed "Empowerment of persons with disability - My role, Your role". It was held at the Ashaiman Government School hall, where over two hundred (200) physically challenged persons were present -both kids and adults alike. There were different forms of disabilities so measures were put in place to get the maximum corporation of all. The deaf had sign language persons to interpret what was being said, the crippled where given a special place to sit so they were not distracted. The program started at 10:00 AM with a motivational session with speakers such as Dr. Eric Kwatia, Hon. BB and Lawyer Esther Gyamfi (a physically challenged lawyer). They were made aware of the fact that they could soar to any height they wish despite their disabilities making particular reference to Lawyer Esther. There was a cake cutting session and popping of champagnes to make their day more memorable and joyful.

There was free medical screening for all attendees which included Hepatitis B test, Blood Pressure, pulse, BMI and counseling sessions by the SpreadAid Medical Team and volunteers. They were advised based on their various test results on how to improve their health. They were all duly refreshed as the screening was ongoing.

The program was climaxed with the sharing of take-home packages and leading them to Christ by one of the volunteers. They were each given copies of the Rhapsody of Realities in addition to items such as rice, oil, canned fish, milk, oats, biscuits and many more.

The program came to a successful end by 3:00 PM with the physically challenged individuals feeling very motivated and loved.

End-of-Year Executive Meeting

The end-of-year meeting is held in November, which is the last month on the SpreadAid International calendar. The meeting gives members the chance to eat and relax after working tediously throughout the year. The sole purpose of the meeting however, is to assess progress and shortcomings alike, write a yearly progress report and then look at ways of improvement for the upcoming year. The all-important meeting for the year 2016 was held at the Pinocchio Restaurant in East Legon, Accra where selected members and executives were invited to attend. The meeting started at 7:30 PM and lasted till about 9:30 PM. The year is put in retrospect where successes and failures are both measured. Ways are discussed as to how challenges that were faced throughout the year can be countered positively in the upcoming year. As the popular saying goes, those who fail to plan, plan to fail, hence, a comprehensive plan for the upcoming year is discussed and laid out. The work of a Non-profit organization is often a very tedious one especially when there is no "formal" remuneration of any sort to commend the work of the members. Awards are therefore given to deserving members as a source of motivation and to boost their commitment levels to the organisation as well. The top 3 fundraisers were awarded. 1st- Ms Mary Bushel 2nd - Mr. Maxwell Kumatey 3rd - Ms Tracy Bawa The first and second runners-up were given a SpreadAid International framed citation and Ms Mary Bushel (the winner) was given a beautiful crystal award. The General Secretary and the Personal Assistant to the Executive Director were both given a framed citation and a crystal awards respectively .

The whole meeting ended up with members taking photographs and socializing.

Project 5000's 4th, 5th & 6th Visits to the Central Region

GOMOA KWAMKROM, ALMIGHTY ACADEMY AND OSAMKROM MASTER SAM PREPARATORY

The Lord is God and His faithfulness endures forever. From the rising of the sun until its going down, the name of the LORD be praised for such an amazing impact in the lives of four hundred and Seven (407) students and teachers in the Central Region on the 27th July, 2016. We say “thank you” to all our partners who made it happen through their various contributions. God richly bless you and increase the substance of your hands.
After camping most individuals who made their intentions of going known, we set off at 5:30 am after a cooperate prayers of thanksgiving.

It was a journey of about two and half hours’ drive from University of Ghana Campus. We got to the first school at 8:30 am. We were warmly welcomed by the teaching staff who had been expecting us and the students, most of whom came to school on that day because of our visit, as a result of them finishing writing their terminal examinations and preparing for their “our day” the next day.

We visited three schools on this day; Gomoa Kwamkrom S.D.A Junior High, Almighty Academy and Osamkrom Master Sam Preparatory.

Osamkrom Master Sam Preparatory entirely made of wood was the first visited. After arranging the items to be presented on the display table, we sat with the teaching staff headed by the headteacher, a pastor. We introduced ourselves and the purpose for which we were in their school.

We then took few pictures. From there, we moved into the various segments of teachings as outlined below.

  • RHAPSODY TIME: This is a very important aspect of the programme. All 220 students and 15 teachers were given copies of Rhapsody of Realities, a daily devotional guide. They were all taken through and the prayer of salvation said with them.

All 15 teachers were given copies of the “Power of Your Mind” a book that teaches on life transforming principles of the mind and its use. This is intended to be studied by the teachers and taught to the children.

  • PROPER HAND WASHING TECHNIQUES: According to UNICEF, “Most deaths in persons below the ages of 10 could be avoided by simple hygienic practices.” All the children were practically taken through proper hand washing techniques with soap under running water. This would be continued with two barrels with taps donated to the school.

  • LIFE AT HOME DURING VACATION: This is also a very important one which contained a number of other topics such as the influence of peers and teenage pregnancy. This was because school was vacating and the probability of them being victims of social vices could be high.

As part of the training, “Swimming Against the Tides”, a book that teaches on the habit of reading, temperaments and team work was given to every form 2 student of the school. Thank you Mr. Azumah for such a book.

Another aspect is the Philosophy of Life. This was a deliberate effort made by the directors to provide a space on the designed exercise books called the “QUOTE”. This is provided for the children to write a philosophy of theirs after we had spoken to them. Anytime they see it, they would be motivated by their own words.

After presenting the items which would be later listed, we moved on to the next schools- Almighty Academy with 5 teachers and 60 students and Gomoa Kwamkrom S.D.A Junior High with 7 teachers and 90 students. Both schools shared the same field and were taken through the same activities and items presented to them.

It was indeed a great experience.

MAKE IMPACT NOW OR NEVER.

Many are waiting till the time they are seen as 'great 'or 'big ' before they would change society, others give unobtrusively flimsy excuses, whilst others think not next to their next neighbour. Are you ready to change the status quo? Do you intend to make the world better than you came to meet? Then take ACTION. For without action, society will forever remain still, or worse still, sink deep down into the ocean of unproductiveness. The words of the brain behind "putting back smiles on faces" will challenge you.

 Read and be inspired.

It cuts my heart deep anytime I open the windows of SpreadAid page. I see a lot of  potential and talents laying  dormant.
59 vessels of skills, ideas and potential . Majority waiting to see what the minority would do, which always excludes them.

However, there is always hope as I see others who are working so hard and acquiring so many skills and strength.

Face it, I have nothing yet to give you. I have no cars, buildings, money,or whatsoever. I am a boy who knows not where to put his head after school vacates unlike many of you.
Most of the things I have now, are things given by friends and people close, mostly not by my parents.

All I hold on to is a vision. A vision of making the world better than I met it. A vision that builds strong foundations for your children.
Many of you will fall as it gets tougher, and even those close. Some of you will remain forever; I will eat your flesh and you will eat mine. I will drink your blood and you will drink mine. My soul will mate with yours and both will find fulfilment.
No matter the part that you belong, do not worry. We have been given a mandate to run. I will change my world, you will change your world; together we will change the world.

I believe in a living hope; a hope where cycles of poverty would be broken; a hope where children would be trained in a home where they will grow up right from a city of responsibilities and opportunities. Where the abstraction of learning would be turned to the materialization of the fulfilment of purpose.

A man aged 89 told his children one afternoon," I have now found my purpose." What is the use?
Where mothers will love their children and children their mothers. Where broken homes will lose power over the future of the next generation. Where love is always the order of the day . A city that seems far but close.
I know there would be challenges but together we can make it happen.
There is hope for tomorrow.

Be a changemaker, be a light to the world, be the man whose face liberates all shackles and let it be said about you, "if not for this man". Be inspired and let us make our world better. Thank you.
