December 3rd is the day set aside to celebrate the physically challenged in the world, and SpreadAid International joined the world in celebrating them this year.
The program was themed "Empowerment of persons with disability - My role, Your role". It was held at the Ashaiman Government School hall, where over two hundred (200) physically challenged persons were present -both kids and adults alike. There were different forms of disabilities so measures were put in place to get the maximum corporation of all. The deaf had sign language persons to interpret what was being said, the crippled where given a special place to sit so they were not distracted.
The program started at 10:00 AM with a motivational session with speakers such as Dr. Eric Kwatia, Hon. BB and Lawyer Esther Gyamfi (a physically challenged lawyer). They were made aware of the fact that they could soar to any height they wish despite their disabilities making particular reference to Lawyer Esther. There was a cake cutting session and popping of champagnes to make their day more memorable and joyful.
There was free medical screening for all attendees which included Hepatitis B test, Blood Pressure, pulse, BMI and counseling sessions by the SpreadAid Medical Team and volunteers. They were advised based on their various test results on how to improve their health. They were all duly refreshed as the screening was ongoing.
The program was climaxed with the sharing of take-home packages and leading them to Christ by one of the volunteers. They were each given copies of the Rhapsody of Realities in addition to items such as rice, oil, canned fish, milk, oats, biscuits and many more.
The program came to a successful end by 3:00 PM with the physically challenged individuals feeling very motivated and loved.
It always feels great to be celebrated. Such a moment when you are disabled and yet you are motivated to make you not feel less of a person. Lets all join hands and encourage PWD's. Just like these ones were. I'm glad to be part of this vision. Long live SpreadAid...
